Verity House is a former Bucknall Hospital building located on Holdcroft Road. It is a building that has been present since the early 20th-century and was used primarily as a doctor's house (when it was known as Wayside) before being converted into office use (known as Verity House).
The building was formerly comprised as a residential house which was originally a substantial, 5-bedroom, 2-storey house and was converted as a doctor’s residence in the later 1920s or 1930s - being first illustrated on the Ordnance Survey edition in 1937. It is annotated as Wayside on the edition in 1949-1951 and is alternatively known as 115 Eaves Lane. More recently, it was occupied by a single doctor who continued to live at the house during retirement until 2006. As it was no longer the practice to have doctors ‘living-in’ by this time, the building was adapted to office and clinical use. It was renamed as Verity House at this time. [2]
When Bucknall Hospital closed in 2012, the majority of the site was demolished for housing development after being acquired by Keepmoat Homes. However, Verity House was set to be converted into residential use. The development on-site took place until 2023, but this building was never converted. This former doctor's house is now awaiting the conversion into a house by a new owner, as Keepmoat Homes have now sold the building to a private developer. [3]
