Our Bucknall (formerly Bucknall Online) is a community-based and non-profit organisation based in Bucknall, Stoke-on-Trent, UK. It was started by Samuel Bateman under the name of Bucknall Online in 2018, before a full name change to Our Bucknall by 2022.
Bucknall Online was initially started in October 2018 as a result of the Red Lion Hotel demolition, which caused concern for the ever-changing area of Bucknall and a lack of preservation. The aim of Bucknall Online was to create a publicly-accessible and free-to-use historical archive of the area in an attempt to preserve Bucknall as we currently know it, whilst recovering the area’s historical past. This was the sole objective of Bucknall Online, until we created a Facebook page under the same name. It was at this point that we found ourselves posting content relating to Bucknall on a frequent basis. People had also started to message us with questions and questions that weren't in relation to the historical archive project. To avoid confusion with the Facebook page and the upcoming website, we decided to change the name of the Facebook page to Our Bucknall on 7th June 2021. You can find full information regarding the name change in a post here. It was initially set out that the Facebook page was to be operated by Bucknall Online. However, despite the name change of the Facebook page, the URL was still associated with Bucknall Online - which is the same as this website. As the website was created with the domain name relating to Bucknall Online, it made sense to rename entirely to Our Bucknall in order avoid mass confusion - being that both the names of Bucknall Online and Our Bucknall were being used. On 26th August 2022, the entire project (consisting of the website and historical archive), as well as the Facebook page (which was renamed in the previous year), was to be known as Our Bucknall. You can find full information regarding the name change in a post here.
Our Bucknall consists of this website, its historical archive, and social media accounts. The initial project name of Bucknall Online has been retained in all URLs associated with Our Bucknall, but only the newer name is now in use. Our Bucknall is a non-profit organisation, meaning that any funds raised or donated will help to maintain the upkeep of the website and historical archive project - although we are looking to expand in raising and donating funds to local, Bucknall-led charitable causes.
