Government Office was a building located on Cambrian Way. It is believed to had been built in 1988 and was used primarily for probation work until its closure in 2009.
The building was known as Government Office, as well as Probation Office. Before being built, a planning application was submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council to gain consent for the development - but it was initially refused. It was submitted in September 1987, and was refused in February 1988. [2] The decision was appealed in October 1988, and it is believed that the structure on the site was then used as a probation office - indicating that the building was constructed. [3] In March 2010, a planning application was submitted to change its use to a residential care home with a single storey rear extension and a rear patio area. This proposal was approved May 2010, but it work never started. [4] In October 2011, another planning application was submitted for the building. This was a proposal for its demolition and the erection of a 2-storey, 16-bedroom care and respite home with ancillary parking and landscaping. This was approved in January 2012, and work began to demolish the building for the new development to take place. [5] This was later incorporated with Aurora Hanley School as they submitted a planning application in July 2018 to convert the previous upstairs residential accommodation within the building to additional classrooms, which involved changing it from Class C2 usage to Class D1. This was approved in September 2018, and the school is now using the entire site. [6]

As Government Office no longer exists, it is not possible to capture any photos. Instead, photos have been captured of what is now situated on the land - which is Aurora Hanley School.
Samuel Bateman (Founder of Our Bucknall) has been able to capture these photos to be retained for the historical archive project on this website. Photos have been included here in a carousel. You can scroll through the gallery by using the left and right arrow keys on the side of each photo.
